I feel that lecturers' should really educate the the students on this.
You see, there’s always 2 sides to every story. One good and the other,bad.
In group work, the good part is that your workload is SUPPOSED to be REDUCED because the work is divided among a few people. And if you want a good grade, of course you have to do a GOOD job and BE RESPONSIBLE.
The bad part is that, not every single member of the group will think this way. Excuses were given and they expect others to understand. For example, the due date of the assignment is due a few days before term test and because it’s a term test, students have to study to do the tests. Therefore they prioritize what is more important to them (THE TERM TEST!) and the quality of the assignment is as bad as the phrase “as long as i contribute something (which most of the time is RUBBISH), can already!)”. Therefore the collator, sadly enough, has to STUDY AND SETTLE the assignment ALONE because asking the rest to re-do will take a very long time and it usually comes back ALMOST the same. Because the collator was nice enough, she/he did (NEVER) tell this to the lecturer because 1) she/he will feel bad 2)it’s no use because the lecturer will only talk to the certain people and if they don’t change then 3) the friendship/relationship/whatever will get strained and it will awkward which is why this lead to point (1).
The collator is then caught in a dilemma where she have to save her grades and also her ‘friendship’.
Question is why can’t they just be considerate and think about others too, instead of themselves? why can’t they jus do a DECENT job in contributing to the GROUP WORK??!
If this happens once or twice, it’s tolerable. But not if it happens FOR 2 FUCKING YEARS!! I guess there’s a limit to everything.
i’m sorry. i never meant to be ‘bad’ or ‘paotoh kia’(however u spell it!) but sometimes i don’t think i deserve all the latenights and burnmidnightoils. haiz. :’(
